At 3:00 p.m. (Beijing time) on May 14, 2017, YAOPAO 24-Hour City Relay first station ended successfully at Daming Palace relics in Xi‘an. As the special challenger, Xiutao Xu, Peak’s runner and International Ultra Marathon Champion, finished his first “One Person’s 24-Hour Run” extreme challenge with more than 1000 runners’ cheering in Xi‘an. It’s his first “One Person 24-Hour Run.”
With amazing perseverance, love of running and insistence on dreams, Xiutao Xu ran for 24 hours continually from 3:00 p.m. on May 13 to 3:00 p.m. on May 14 and finished 159.6 kms. During the challenge, he drank over 100 bottles, got 10 running sets changed, overcame 35 degrees C high temperatures and an hour of terrible weather including heavy rain. However, he never quit. “I get renewed knowledge about extreme challenges from this experience,” Xiutao Xu said. “The significance of the challenge is not what you achieve, but at running over again when confronted with difficulty, injuries and desperation. You will make it finally.”
Xi‘an is the first station for Xiutao XU’s extreme public challenge, and he will take on this challenge in 10 other cities including Beijing and Shanghai. Meanwhile, he will work with Peak to promote his signature running shoes, raise money with JD Finance for YAO Foundation founded by Yao Ming, the former Chinese basketball player. All money raised is to build running tracks at primary and middle schools in China’s poverty-stricken areas.
