Molecular Assemblies Appoints NuVasive Executive Sean Freeman to Board of Directors


SAN DIEGO, June 15, 2017Molecular Assemblies Inc., a company developing a proprietary enzymatic DNA synthesis technology, today announced that it has expanded its board of directors with the appointment of Sean Freeman, NuVasive head of strategy and corporate development, to its board of directors.

“Sean’s extensive business development experience in both strategic partnerships and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) combined with his financial acumen will serve Molecular Assemblies well as we further develop and commercialize our enzymatic DNA synthesis technology,” said Molecular Assemblies President and CEO Michael J. Mr. Freeman brings to Molecular Assemblies more than 20 years’ experience securing licensing deals and strategic partnerships, and in international deal making. He has closed more than $100 billion in transactions in various capacities as a venture investor, investment banker, and corporate M&A lead. As head of strategy and corporate development for NuVasive, Mr. Freeman oversees the company’s inorganic activity, including the management of its strategic venture portfolio. Mr. Freeman previously worked as senior vice president of business development for Cole-Parmer Instrument Company, and as head of corporate ventures and M&A at Life Technologies, a leading multinational life sciences company that was acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific. Previously, Mr. Freeman was an investment banker in Merrill Lynch’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group in New York. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree at the Wharton School and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
