BETHESDA, Md., May 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) with Redburn Development today announced the signing and groundbreaking of The Wick as part of Tribute Portfolio, the company’s newest brand of exceptional independent hotels around the world. The adaptive re-use building was built in the mid-nineteenth century as a candle and soap manufacturing facility and will undergo a meticulous transformation before opening as a full-service boutique hotel later this year. With its captivating design, The Wick is poised shine a light on Hudson for global travelers and local residents –two hours north of New York City and one block from Amtrak station.
“Hudson has become a home away from home for those in the know, and is gaining momentum as a sought-after destination with its indie-spirit and vibrant social scene,” said Julius Robinson, Vice President and Global Brand Lead, Tribute Portfolio. “The Wick Hotel will be a perfect fit for the Tribute Portfolio brand, both reflecting this eclectic and energetic community and embodying what discerning travelers are seeking today: sincere service and spontaneous independent moments that bring a destination to life.”
With 55 thoughtfully-designed guestrooms, including seven suites, The Wick Hotel will draw upon the building’s heritage throughout the exterior and interior design with details that evoke the spirit of Hudson and honor its industrial candle-making history. The hotel will also feature an intimate and residential lobby bar and lounge, a conference/meeting room and a rooftop event space boasting breathtaking views of Hudson Valley.
Originally built in the 1860s, the property was a manufacturing hub for key industries of the time: first utilized as a soap and candle factory, then converted to textile manufacturing and later a knitting mill. As a historic preservation project, a nomination to the National and State Historic Registers is underway, ensuring that 41 Cross Street will maintain the architectural integrity of its 150+ year history.
“The Wick team is building strong relationships with our neighbors, the local Hudson and Columbia County communities, as we maintain the Mid-Nineteenth Century roots and historic nature of the property,” said Tom Rossi, Principal, Redburn Development. “Tribute Portfolio is the perfect partner as we transform this remarkable Hudson building to an adaptive re-use hotel, and we are confident that our guests will appreciate the spirit of independence while benefitting from Marriott’s award-winning loyalty programs.”
Gaining popularity as an idyllic and residential yet culturally-robust getaway in New York state, the city of Hudson is known for its charming independently-owned shops lining the central Warren Street area. The city features dozens of art galleries, locally-sourced food purveyors and a diverse range of restaurants. With a long history as a flourishing arts community, Hudson is an urban gem with rich architecture preserved in landmark buildings and lively arts and dining scene.
Introducing the Tribute Portfolio brand to Hudson will give global travelers access to outstanding upper-upscale hotels while benefitting from the company’s award-winning loyalty programs and allows owners the ability to maintain their independent spirit, while benefiting from Marriott’s powerful distribution, loyalty and sales platforms.
