From Universal Pictures Home Entertainment: The Ottoman Lieutenant

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., June 14, 2017 — Bringing to life a little known chapter in World War I history, the extraordinary and powerful story THE OTTOMAN LIEUTENANT debuts on Blu-rayTM, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand August 1, 2017 from UPHE Content Group. One of the very first movies to explore the eastern front of the war, the sweeping romance about a love that has no cultural boundaries is set amidst the exotic and dangerous Ottoman Empire, and stars an incredible cast including Academy Award® winner Ben Kingsley (Schindler’s List), Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down), Michiel Huisman (“Game of Thrones”) and Hera Hilmar (Anna Karenina).

On the brink of the first World War, The Ottoman Lieutenant tells the story of a strong-willed American woman (Hilmar) who, frustrated by ongoing injustices at home, follows an American doctor (Hartnett) to a medical mission in the exotic Ottoman Empire.  However, her loyalty to both the doctor and the mission’s founder (Kingsley) is soon tested when she falls in love with Ismail (Huisman), a lieutenant in the Ottoman Imperial Army.  With the invading army forces at their doorstep and the world about to plunge into war, she soon realizes that the most dangerous place to be during war, is in love.

The film is directed by Joseph Ruben (Sleeping with the Enemy) from a screenplay by Jeff Stockwell (Bridge to Terabithia).
